Cost cutting for rugby league

I had a conversation the other day about rugby league in general and it got me thinking about how people are always saying the game needs to save money.

Well I’ve figured out a way to cut costs and stop potential salary cap rorting.

Just have every player be paid by the NRL themselves. Set up one payroll division at the head office and all contracts and pay would go through them.

This would stop the clubs ever going over the salary cap as the clubs really wouldn’t be in charge of it anymore & it would save the clubs having to pay payroll staff.

This doesn’t stop the clubs offering third party agreements. I’m not sure how it would work with the NRL paying the wages instead of the clubs but that would be for them to work out.

It’s not a foolproof solution but it’s an idea. What do you think?
